BA Acting : Audition Process.
First Round Audition
Your first round is your personal statement.
This should demonstrate your current experience and your reasons for wanting to study on this particular course. It should meet the minimum requirements set out on the website or emailed to you.
Second Round Auditions
If you are successfully recalled to the second round, you will be invited to an online audition where you will perform your two monologues and a short interview will follow.
-Prepare 2 speeches to perform in character.
One can be Shakespeare, in verse and the other a contrasting contemporary of your own choice. Or two contemporary pieces.
Both speeches can't be any less than 1 minute and no more than 3 minutes.
The panel can ask about your acting choices and character choices so make sure you choose a speech that works for you and highlights your best qualities. They are looking for you to demonstrate your strengths as an actor.
Always read the play fully and multiple times as they can ask about character journey, archetypes and narrative.
A good rule of thumb for contemporary monologues is something written in the last ten years, but to be fair anything after the 20th century can be classed as contemporary.
My personal suggestions of contemporary playwrights :
Evan Placey
Lucy Kirkwood
Rona Munro
Caryl Churchill
David Greig
Nina Raine
Gary McNair
Third Round Auditions
If you are successfully recalled to the third round you will be asked to prepare something new, this will be communicated to you via email.
Final Round Auditions
If you are successfully recalled to the final round, you will audition for Head of Acting and the Associate Head of Acting, this is your last chance to show them your talent and commitment to the acting programme. Making it this far does not secure you a place on the course.
Best of luck.
