“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

COMMUNITY THEATRE PROJECTS

BUCKHIND PLAYERS

Buckhind Players is a community drama ensemble set up two years ago over a coffee with a friend. It is unique and is based in the fiercely creative, under rated town of Buckhaven in Fife. Buckhind Players is made up of various members of the community from Buckhaven and further afield. We may be small but we pack a punch, in 2019 we put on our very own Pantomime, the first of its kind in over 10 years for the local community. We had massive success with over 900 people coming to see it from our area, this was a massive moment for us and very very special. This was the first time some of our community had seen panto, oh yes it was!
We worked hard and professionally and the group has continued to work together since, you can keep up to date with our adventures over on the blog section!

Contact Point
Finding Love on Lawrence Street

Finding Love on Lawrence Street was a 8 week long process with a group of adults who have additional support needs and mental health issues. I was commissioned to do a piece of work in my community that would benefit those who lived there, I made a connection with Contact Point and we worked with their group in Fife. Over the eight weeks I guided the participants through a devising process and we created a spoof film of a dating show, titled Finding Love on Lawrence Street.

CLOSE[NESS]

CLOSE[NESS] was a site specific collaboration between myself and Ibrox resident Maggi. Maggi is an incredible woman who I had the privilege to work as part of a site specific piece I was creating. The enquiry was about the closeness of communities, how well do we know our neighbours and how do we keep that unique relationship alive in a ever growing culture towards social isolation. Maggi taught her neighbours English through gardening when they came to Glasgow as refugees and opened her home and her heart to create a welcoming home for them in Glasgow. I was privileged to be a part of that experience so we created a tour and interactive performance of Maggi’s home in a Glasgow Close, we then threw a party and shared a meal of foods from the countries that make up the close.

Waiting For The Sun to Rise

Waiting For The Sun to Rise was a collaboration between RCS, CPP students and the over 60’s community in Glasgow. We laughed as we taught each other iconic dances from our life time, from the cha cha slide to line dancing. We shared stories and tender moments all whilst documenting the sunrises we had seen over the course of our lives. Waiting For The Sun to Rise culminated in a dance performance.
